Knowledge has become too widespread in modern society, making ordinary people fearful about many potential catastrophes, according to novelist Beryl Bainbridge. She has recently seen a sharp rise in her popularity, and this has come as a surprise to her. Previously, she had a cult following but her books did not really sell in very large numbers. She is above all a libertarian, even though she feels that educational standards have declined in modern times.

The cinema is a serious cultural threat to the Christian church, according to author and critic Camille Paglia, who became notorious for her criticism of feminists. She believes that there is a need to revive old standards in film production and to focus on the fundamentals of film. She is currently Professor of Humanities at the performance-art-based University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA, and enjoys being a long way from the Ivy League.

Inventor Trevor Baylis was responsible for the innovative clockwork radio, which is now produced in Cape Town by BayGen Power. Some 60,000 Freeplay radios are produced monthly at the factory, with a clockwork torch recently added to the company's portfolio. The company is also working on the development of land-mine detectors, two-way radios, and global positioning systems using the same technology.
