Directing a film takes so much emotional effort that a considerable length of time must be allowed to elapse before a new film project can be started, according to director Jean-Paul Rappeneau. Article Abstract:
The film 'La Haine,' which is set on a housing estate and follows 24 hours in the lives of its three main characters, has been extremely successful in France. Prime minister Alain Juppe even insisted that all cabinet ministers watch it. It deals with very sensitive issues, such as police brutality and the government's neglect of public housing, and reflects the strong hatred of injustice which is felt by its director, Mathieu Kassovitz.
