Everyone gets a say in the city of angels

Article Abstract:

Journalists working for the Los Angeles Times are to be forced to meet specific targets for the number of women and minorities they quote. This affirmative action stance by editor Mark Willes has attracted considerable controversy, with journalists fearing that their career may be in danger if they do not meet the targets. They are also concerned about practical problems associated with finding a suitable number of women and minorities to quote and about the implications of highlighting the ethnic identity of everyone they quote.

Danger - Pilger still at large

Article Abstract:

ANC leader Nelson Mandela is charming and charismatic, but can also be viewed as extremely patrician, according to Australian-born broadcaster and writer John Pilger. In his film 'Apartheid Did Not Die,' Pilger, who was banned from South Africa in 1967 for making public the extremes of Apartheid, argues that the dream that began with the release of Mandela could now fade. Pilger has attracted very mixed views. Some regard him as a polemicist, while others respect him as a crusading journalist.
