'Friends' in Middle East rebuff US and flock to Tehran

Article Abstract:

There are clear indications that US influence in the Middle East is waning as Arab nations meet together in Iran for an Islamic conference. This will discuss issues including women's rights and education, as well as the crisis in the Middle East. It seems that almost all Arab countries have now given up hope in the peace process. It is a cause of considerable embarrassment to the US that they are willing to meet in Iran, which the US is still trying to isolate, while they were not willing to attend the Arab-Israeli economic summit in Qatar in Nov 1997.
