Blair prepares to take the Third Way on electoral reform

Article Abstract:

Proposals for electoral reform in the United Kingdom have been set out by Lord Jenkins who has received favorable reviews prior to the publication of his report. Prime minister, Tony Blair, may welcome the report. He may also postpone taking any decisions on its recommendations for a system that reflects votes cast in terms of seat won more accurately than the existing system. The ruling Labor party is divided on this issue, and it is more likely that a referendum will be held in the next parliament than it will be held prior to an election.
