As radical chic as it gets

Article Abstract:

There has been a strong rise in interest in Italian design among collectors. Items such as kitchen appliances, furniture and lamps by Italian designers are being purchased by museums as items of social and political history, as well as art history. Strong interest from museums puts private purchasers in a difficult position, as it makes demand patterns very unpredictable. It is very hard for the private purchaser to tell whether it is worth paying a very high price for a particular item, as it is impossible to know whether another very similar item will come up for auction subsequently.

Return of the saints

Article Abstract:

There has been renewed interest in purchasing Old Master paintings recently. The market for these paintings in London, England, remains dominated by dealers, and this means that it is more stable than some other art markets. It is particularly worth considering Old Masters by followers of famous artists. These were painted as tributes, not imitations, and are relatively inexpensive. There is currently a good supply of Old Masters, but shortages could emerge in the foreseeable future, pushing prices up.
