A wry expression on the face of an old friend

The Henry Moore Institute in the Headrow, Leeds, England, offers display and study of sculpture in general. Architects Jeremy Dixon, Edward Jones and Building Design Partnership designed the institute with a black granite facade. The severe, sombre facade is tomb-like and appears to be carved from a single block, as sculpture. Reflection in the granite brings animation. Chimneys and gables of original Victorian terraced houses show above the facade. The dignified building is welcoming, with an intimate interior.

A vision in white, by an American in Paris

Article Abstract:

The headquarters building in Paris, France for the pay-television company Canal Plus is spectacular. American architect Richard Meier, known for his museum design, designed a delicate building with white aluminium panels. He used a single measurement for all dimensions possible, creating calm. He added a three-storey wall to create 'an urban window,' a huge hole. The building is on a suitable scale compared to other buildings in Paris.
