A great city - but what is it for?
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong is the most rapidly expanding large city in the world, with its population having risen from 0.5 million to almost 7 million in 50 years. The standard of living in Hong Kong has also reached very high levels. However, it is uncertain whether this process can continue under Chinese sovereignty. There are a number of concerns about the new administration, including delays in implementing administrative reforms and the impact of Chinese sovereignty on Hong Kong's separate legal system.

Markets may be over-reacting to the beef crisis
Article Abstract:
Financial markets have not yet reacted fully to the crisis facing the beef industry in the UK. This is mainly because there are still many uncertainties and because markets have had very little experience in assessing the likely economic impact of this sort of development. It is inevitable that production of UK beef and dairy products will decline considerably over the next year, and this will have a significant impact on international trade.
