Article Abstract:
Many fountains and water troughs were constructed in the UK in earlier generations, especially in Victorian times. They served a vital role in the provision of clean drinking water. However, most of these have now dried up or been disconnected from the mains. It may be appropriate to use money from the National Lottery and various Millennium funds to pay for the repair of many fountains and water troughs. This has the potential to be an extremely popular Millennium project.

Article Abstract:
Many observers over recent years have claimed that Modern architecture, which began in France, Germany and the US at the end of the first world war, is now in decline. However, Modern architecture in fact remains very strong, and in the UK more high quality Modern architectural schemes were commissioned than ever before. There is now a new generation of Modern architects who are putting forward new forms of a greatly re-energised Modernism.

Article Abstract:
The second world war had a significant impact on architecture in the UK. Many buildings were destroyed during the war, and post-war architects were therefore forced to turn to prefabrication on a large scale. The war introduced new ways of building which are now reflected in many of the factories, civic monuments and houses of the late 1940s, the 1950s and the 1960s.
