Approaches to the sponsorship of fashion design are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Fashion designers need extensive backing to put on catwalk presentations, and for this reason are entering into a range of agreements with sponsors. Julien Macdonald, for example, art-directed the spring 1999 colours campaign for make-up manufacturer Max Factor, and also also designed a dress with references to the bottle used by Tanqueray gin, another sponsor.

Diamonds are inherently extremely beautiful, according to couturier Roland Mouret, who is to manage the design of a diamond jewellery collection to be shown for the first time in Sep 2001, along with his clothing designs.
