Article Abstract:

The provenance of the Taiji Tu by treating its two main components, the Xiantian trigram circle and the Taiji circle with its interlocking yin and yang swirls, as separate pictorial entities, are discussed. It concluded that the Xiantian circle is not an ancient chart, subject to other conditions that it does not fulfill.
