TIME's past in the present: Nostalgia and the black and white image

Article Abstract:

Commercial photography and some forms of advertising have found a new niche in black and white images. Time magazine was entirely black and white, but it is now in full colour, apart from a selection of advertisements in black and white, and stories that are deemed 'special'. Black and white now has impact due to its contrast from the norm, giving a picture status beyond that of being 'news', suggesting a cultural significance.
