Article Abstract:

The way in which Marlene Streeruwitz employs postmodern techniques and feminist criticism to explore and expand the limits of the genre of fictional biography is presented. Her novel 'Nachwelt' uses elements of diary, biography, transcribed interview, and historical novel to interrogate the role of literary biographies that attempt to offer insight into people's lives, and depict a stranger's life while simultaneously questioning the authority of that very genre.
