Export processing zones in Asia

Article Abstract:

Export processing zones (EPZs) are the most common form of custom-free manufacturing purported for industrial development. When established during the appropriate stage of the country's industrial development, EPZs are likely to have a significant impact. To become effective, EPZs' role in national industrialization should be supplementary rather than substitutional. EPZs should also be structured according to the specific needs, conditions and objectives of host developing countries.
