Article Abstract:

In 1996, when George Anni bought the building that housed the Applejack Deli on Spruce Street in Philadelphia, he intended to renovate it and reopen it as a deli. Restaurant fashions change, however, and when Valanni was launched early in 2001, its menus offered dishes that were based in Mediterranean cuisine, with strong Latin influences.
