Foreign retailers are looking for space in Bond Street, London, England, with zone A rents rising to around 300-350 pounds sterling per sq ft. Some retailers prefer to find outlets in roads near Bond Street where rents are cheaper. Oxford Street, London, England, remains very popular with retailers but it is facing some competition from the major new shopping centres at Dartford and Thurrock, England. Retail rents in Oxford Street have been falling despite demand for outlets remaining strong. Some rents have been reduced in order to stimulate interest from prospective occupiers.

Article Abstract:

There are number of retail developments in progress or awaiting planning permission which should help to relieve the demand for space in Edinburgh, Scotland. Retail rents in the city are expected to reach 248 pounds sterling per sq ft during 1999, for zone A properties. Some major stores have opened more than one outlet in Edinburgh due to the shortage of suitable buildings. The department store Harvey Nichols has taken an option for space in the 250,000 sq ft development due to be built at St Andrew's Square, if planning is agreed.

Article Abstract:

The retail market in Leeds is strong, with rents increasing particularly for some areas where they have reached 250 pounds sterling per sq ft. The leisure market is also fairly buoyant although there are concerns rents have been to high for leisure operators to sustain.
