Occupier survey key results
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken for the Estates Gazette periodical found that occupiers of commercial properties in the West Midlands, England were very concerned with crime levels particularly in the Birmingham city centre. The West Midland region was seen to have good air and rail links whilst the road network rated the lowest in the poll. Local knowledge was considered to be the most important aspect of a property consultants work. Consultants were usually chosen through recommendation from other occupiers rather than advertisements in telephone directories or in direct mail campaigns.

Outlawing undesirable practices
Article Abstract:
A number of legal controls govern the practice of estate agency in the UK, but the general position is that anyone can practise as an estate agent until such time as they breach any of the regulations. The initial legislation was the Estate Agents Act of 1979 and this was followed by the Estate Agents (Undesirable Practices) Order of 1991, issued under powers conferred by the Act. The estate agency practices governed by legislation are summarised, and regulations governing sale boards are presented in detail.

Jones Lang Wootton: auction results analysis system
Article Abstract:
Jones Lang Wootton's Auction Analysis Results System was introduced in 1992. It uses data dating back to 1985 to analyse the state of the auction market in comparison to the general property market. The results reflect the wider market and also indicate levels of confidence in the economy. Trends which have been identified include the decrease in sales during the third quarter of 1992 following the liquidation of Canary Wharf. Increased interest rates caused another fall in quarter two of 1994.
