Down but not out

Article Abstract:

The city of Derby, England, has welcomed the exposure generated by its bid to be selected as the venue for the Millennium Exhibition, despite its failure to be shortlisted. However, the city's Pride Park 2000, a regeneration site, could still win funding for a National Science Centre. It is estimated that vacant office space within a two mile radius of the city centre totals 21,367 sq mt, but most of it is secondhand. In the industrial sector, there has been little speculative development and there is a short supply of new space.

Drive for space

Article Abstract:

There is very strong demand for office and industrial buildings in Warwickshire, England. In some cases, potential occupiers are unable to fulfill their requirements, and are being forced to look at property outside the county. No speculative construction work is being undertaken, and this is hampering local business growth. However, the county is still managing to attract considerable investment. Warwick Technology Park is one of the few locations where speculative development may take place in the foreseeable future.

Thoroughly modern image

Article Abstract:

There are several industrial building developments of over 35,000 sq ft available in Swindon, England, but the increasing demand for space is not being met. Warehouse operations are looking for much larger sites. A new 7.6 acre development at Drakes Way is likely to be redeveloped into offices and space for light industry. There has been a 28% rise in the occupation of warehouse and industrial space, since 1996. Office development is likely to increase as there is little vacant prime space in the town.
