Counter attraction

Article Abstract:

An inquiry into the development of the 26 acre Canada Fields area, North London, England, is underway to decide the type of development which should go ahead on the site. Some local agents fear that a new retail development will take trade away for the town centres of Cheshunt and Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. They point out that the Brookfield Centre has already had a negative impact on retailing in the town centres. Many shops are vacant, with rents at 15 pounds sterling per sq ft in Cheshunt. Other agents suggest that Brookfield attracts different customers to shops in the town centre.

Alternative approach

Article Abstract:

Luton and Dunstable, United Kingdom, are prime targets for property developers because there is an international airport nearby, plus motorway and rail links to London. Pillar-Property-Haslemere paid 8.5 million pounds sterling to buy Capability Green Business Park and it plans to build offices on the site. There are also three out-of-town sites for office development. White Lion Retail Park covers 45 acres and it is being developed into retail warehousing. Rents are comparatively cheap in the region and London is only about 40 minutes away.
