Article Abstract:
The US aviation industry is gearing towards massive consolidation, as competition intensifies in domestic and international markets. The trend may be explained by the fact that the previous Cold War generated incremental defense outlays and recent market conditions lead to high nonrecurring costs and very limited customer base. Despite these monumental challenges, the country has maintained a commanding seat in the market, with about 914,300 workers employed in 3,885 aerospace operations.
