Duke Power has come up with an innovative method of promoting economic development in North Carolina and South Carolina. The company surrenders 50 percent of its profits from electricity sales, part of which is utilized to reduce the interest burden on industrial customers, making them more competitive. The fund is also used to promote education and training programs in the regions and to subsidize the power bills of low-income customers.
