A survey conducted by Site Selection magazine showed that the computer industry is the overwhelming favorite as the fastest-growing business sector in 1997. Also expected to be strong performers in the coming year are industrial machinery and equipment, electronic and other equipment, instruments and other related products, computer software, medical equipment and supplies, motor vehicles, auto parts, paper products and information services.

Smaller communities setting high-tech traps for business

Article Abstract:

Rural communities are attracting more businesses and improving employment mainly due to advanced communications technology. More technology-based companies are being lured to small towns due to the low operating and living costs offered as well as their retirement and recreational opportunities. Small towns also offer community spirit and a loyal workforce. Among the companies that have decided to go rural are FMC Corp. and IPSCO Steel Inc.

Conway Data's choices for the world's top 10 business parks for 1994-95 are presented. The parks were rated on the basis of the number of jobs added during the past year. The top business parks for 1994-95 came from Taiwan, Mexico, Sweden, El Salvador and the US.
