The Society of Illustrators 35th Annual Awards Exhibition

Article Abstract:

Works were chosen from 7,000 entries in advertising, book design, editorial and industrial categories for the 35th annual Society of Illustrators Awards Exhibition. Terrence Brown, Director of the New York Society of Illustrators, was pleased with the overall quality of the work entered in the show. More Eastern Europeans participated in the show this year than in previous years. The show also included a number of product advertisements. Reproductions of illustrations from the show are included.

The posters of the Earth

Article Abstract:

A poster exhibition was held at New York's World Trade Center during the spring of 1995 to awaken peoples' environmental awareness on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Earth Day. The exhibition which was organized by New York designer Seymour Chwast featured 84 posters by artists from countries around the world. These included works by famous artists as well as by ten American designers commissioned to produce posters for the event.

Time of the essence

Article Abstract:

Fernando Medina left the graphic design world feeling that bureaucracy, technology and impersonality were taking over. He then began designing sculptural quality clocks that were sold at New York's Museum of Modern Art and designed the immensely popular 'The MoMA Clock Kit.' His current clock designs use paper and an array of other everyday objects to transform simple elements into geometric shapes and ornamental statements.
