Article Abstract:

An account of a photojournalist who is covering Afghanistan since 1994, who has witnessed the civil war, the Taliban and the allied invasion, and who earned the 2005 World Understanding Award for his photographs is presented. A journal invites photo stories and essays for a new permanent photojournalism section that portrays human relations, friendship, concern for the world environment, the spirit of youth or a lifting of hope for peace.

Unveiling hidden voices

Article Abstract:

The first women's radio station was launched on October 28, 2003 by several Afghan women in Herat, a city ruled by Afghanistan's most infamously patriarchal, warlord-turned-governor, Ismail Khan. Several organizations in Afghanistan such as Institute for Media, Policy, and Civil Society (IMPACS), a Canadian media NGO, negotiated a license from Afghanistan's central government and verbal approval from Khan for the radio station.

African airwaves: Broadcasting the news in East Africa

Article Abstract:

Newspapers, for various reasons were not readily available to the majority of people in Africa. African press is experiencing a new dawn as it has made strides that have coincided with the democratization process, which aims to make information generally accessible to the public, especially the rural poor.
