A long way to go: women journalists still struggle to gain ground in Arab media

Article Abstract:

Women journalists are rare in Arabic countries and those that exist do not get assigned feature articles or editorial and are often in fear for their lives. The extreme small number of women in broadcasting appear only on women's shows. One rare success story is May Kahale, a top journalist for Lebanon's LBC TV.

Approximately 15 million television viewers in the Moscow, Russia, area lost television reception when a fire started at the Ostankino television tower on Aug 27, 2000. Regular programming returned on Sep 3, 2000.
