Article Abstract:
Jet Set 1.0 ($79.95), distributed by Intex Solutions, is a new Lotus 1-2-3 add-on software package. Jet Set helps you create attractive print copy, using Hewlett-Packard Laserjets. The package offers various improvements on 1-2-3: spreadsheet margin widths can be precisely adjusted; fonts can be more easily mixed on a page; multiple copies can be printed; and settings for print parameters can be named and saved. The package has some faults: for example, the program does not support 1-2-3 border commands that permit column headings and row labels to repeat on different pages; and combining boldface type and underlining in cells causes the cells to misalign when they print. The program requires 45Kbytes (plus at least 256Kbytes for 1-2-3 version 2.0 or later), and DOS 2.0 or later. Overall, the frustrations of this program outweigh its benefits.

Mac Calc 1.2 ($139) is a spreadsheet program from Bravo Technologies. The program, which is not copy protected, requires 512Kbytes of RAM. The program is said to be especially useful for turning out attractive spreadsheet tables for reports; Mac Calc allows mixing of typefaces, styles, and sizes into a table by row or by column. A bordering feature allows you to embellish a table; and leading between rows can be adjusted, so that an entire table becomes larger or smaller. Mac Calc is valuable solely as a spreadsheet, offering spreadsheets as large as 125 cells wide by 999 cells deep; perhaps more important, however, to some users, is the quality of the new product's output.

Laser Author 1.0 ($199.95) from Firebird Licensees is a new word processing program. The software, which is not copy protected, requires 512Kbytes and an external disk drive. The program allows you to save sets of format options, described as a 'style', for paragraphs and headings in a document. The product's manual, which ought to be clear for so complex a program, is called 'confusing'. Laser Author is not recommended for sophisticated page layout jobs; but for creating templates of format options that are used for producing structured documents, the product is reasonably priced.
