The meaning of self-starvation: Qualitative study of patients' perception of anorexia nervosa

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to systematically explore the meaning that the patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) attribute to their anorectic behavior. The results showed that there were eight constructs in which anorectic behavior could be summarized and they were security, avoidance, mental strength, self-confidence, identity, care communication and death and these constructs should be regarded when patient's motivation and goals for treatment are assessed.

Psychopathy of anorexia nervosa

Article Abstract:

The key to understanding the neurobiology of anorexia nervosa (AN) is to understand the interactions and effects the various neuropeptides and neurotransmitters have on each other in this disorder. The most comprehensive review of studies of serotonin function in AN, provides a catalyst for thinking about significant neurotransmitter and neuropeptide interactions.

Habit learning and anorexia nervosa: A cognitive neuroscience hypothesis

Article Abstract:

A review is presented on clinical, neuropsychological and neuroimaging findings to a neurobiological understanding of the potential mechanism of the perpetuation of anorexia nervosa. Research on such neurocognitive disturbances has the potential both to inform understanding of neural mechanisms underlying anorexia nervosa and to lead to advances in treatment.
