Stigmatization and quality of life in patients with epilepsy

Article Abstract:

The stigmatization of patients with epilepsy is studied using a structurized stigmatization-of-patients-with-epilepsy questionnaire (SPEQ), which is developed by the Laboratory of Clinical Psychology and the Department of Neurorehabilitation at the Bekhterev Institute. The results of the study based on 144 respondents indicates that the patients suffering from epilepsy experience a high level of stigmatization, which affects their social adjustment, social frustration and other quality-of-life aspects.

Depression as a factor affecting the quality-of-life assessment in patients with epilepsy

Article Abstract:

The clinical and social factors that influence the development of depression, the extent of its severity and the interdependence between depression and quality of life (QOL) in epilepsy is determined. The results indicate a negative correlation between depression severity and all World Health Organization (WHO) QOL-100 domains, thus confirming the presence of psychoemotional disorders in the form of depression, which affects the QOL of epileptic patients.

Sociopsychological status of epileptic patients who decline to complete WHO QOL-100 technique

Article Abstract:

The sociopsychological features of the epileptic patients who had refused to complete the World Health Organization (WHO) quality-of-life (QOL)-100 technique is investigated. The results indicated that the patients exhibited a marked decrease of sociopsychological adjustment and the combination of these psychological qualities and other peculiarities of the epilepsy patients may have made it difficult for them to complete the WHO QOL-100 technique.
