Peer ratings: the impact of purpose on rating quality and user acceptance

Article Abstract:

Peer rating as affected by evaluative and developmental effects of purpose is tested using a quasi-experimental model. Developmental peer ratings showed greater differentiation, greater validity, and higher reliability than the evaluative form. Developmental conditions also gave a more favorable measurement of user acceptance based on future use recommendations. Such observations suggest a greater usefulness of peer reviews for developmental rather than evaluative concerns. Rating contexts exerted a strong influence on peer rating quality and user acceptance. In the context of organizational settings, peer ratings can be an important source of developmental information, consequently caution should be exerted in applying peer review for evaluative intentions.

Detecting scale recalibration in survey research: a laboratory investigation

Article Abstract:

Accurate detection of scale recalibration is discussed. Three research questions are developed and tested in an attempt to find a methodology that detects scale recalibration. The results show that the presence of scale recalibration in survey research data can be accurately detected by using an ideal scale methodology.

Article Abstract:

Perspectives necessary for the development and implementation of the alpha, beta, gamma change typology are identified. The development and acceptance of the theory are shown to have strong similarities to the classic development of normal science. Methods for the theories further acceptance are discussed.
