Information decay during response delay

Article Abstract:

The research done on transformations between different coordinate systems was analyzed on the basis of neural processing and how motor commands might be incorporated. The analysis showed that sensorimotor information is lost at some stage while responding is delayed, but that increased processing time can raise the baseline before loss occurs. The influx of kinesthetic stimulation during the waiting period may be a potential source of interference and explains information loss in terms of simple decay.

Invariants of the second transformation expressed in activation ranges

Article Abstract:

Target parameters and an arbitrary invariant are expressed as intersections between subpopulations of neurons performing the distance and elevation parts of the second transformation. Specification of a parameter value such as target distance determines a subpopulation of activation ranges. Choosing a subpopulation of activation ranges invariant over pointing movements may be a nervous system strategy for movement preparation.

Reaching the point where you have to move a head

Article Abstract:

Major methodological issues are raised in response to Martha Flanders et al's research. There is a lack of evidence for a shoulder-centered coordinate system versus a head-centered one. Confounding variables are found in how Flanders decided on the location of the head coordinate system. The site chosen for a putative coordinate system is seen to introduce variability during head rotation.
