Homelessness and mental illness in Denmark: focus on "street-dwellers"

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the growing population of mentally ill homeless persons in Denmark. The author, maintaining at least one quarter of the homeless population suffers from a mental illness, including drug/alcohol abuse, argues an outreach program must be developed to extend care to this population in which social workers take the initiative to go out into the streets and make contact.

In times of need the refugees turn to friends, service providers and partners who offer them information, advice, practical help and emotional support. Service providers and policy makers will improve the refugees and make them more responsible.
