Examination of the MMPI-A for the assessment of psychopathy in incarcerated adolescent male offenders

Article Abstract:

A study to test whether the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-A) was of practical use in determining psychopathy in juvenile offenders found it was not. Results from the MMPI-A applied to 101 adolescent males sentenced to a state training school indicated little or no difference in the scores of psychopaths and non-psychopaths. These results suggest the MMPI-A may be applicable for predicting psychopathic behavior in only repeat and severe juvenile delinquents.

Multisystemic treatment of high-risk juvenile offenders

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of a multisystemic treatment program using eight juvenile first offenders showed such an approach to be effective. The treatment program used case management, education, family therapy and nurturance. Offenders improved in the areas of family relationships and functioning at school. Results of the study must be considered tentative due to the small sample size but multisystemic treatment is still worth continuing.

Reflections on a young offender's institution: Communication- a need, a want, a right

Article Abstract:

Study is conducted to demonstrate that a dichotomy exists between wider societal movements to develop communication between individuals and among institutions and management practices within a young offender's institution. Some recommendation is suggested in relation to communication within young offender's institutions.
