Article Abstract:
Attitudes towards eating and perceptions of body shape are determined by cultural factors, according to research among Hong Kong-born and Australian-born women from two Australian universities. This research, which used the Figure Rating Scale and the Eating Attitudes Test, looked at the impact of culture on negative attitudes towards eating and dissatisfaction with body shape. The Australian-born women had greater body image distortion than the Hong Kong-born women, but there were no important differences between the groups in their attitudes to eating.
