Article Abstract:

Children's analogical reasoning in a physics task was investigated, based on an analogy generated by the children. They learned how to predict the behaviour of a balance scale, and two versions were devised with negative analogy and positive analogy, and they were later asked to solve a force interaction problem. 9-10 year olds exhibited spontaneous transfer under both training conditions, but seven year olds did not exhibit any transfer under the positive analogy condition, only transferring selected aspects of the correct solution.

Early differentiation within the animate domain: Are humans something special?

Article Abstract:

A study investigated if preverabl infants distinguish between humans and mammals within the animate domain. Infants habituated only to humans, while seven month olds, although not five month olds, dishabituated to the out-of-category example. There are implications for the development of categorical thinking during the first year of life.

The role of good form in young infants' perception of partly occluded objects

Article Abstract:

Studies have looked into reports that young infants perceive the unity of a center-occluded object when its visible ends are in motion. The results suggest that curvature gave information to support completion, as well as global configuration and motion.
