Adapting to the transition from socialism to capitalism in Poland: the role of screening strategies in social change

Article Abstract:

The argument that interval strategists always consider many options acceptable to form broad goal-categories was studied. Preference structures were classified as interval or point. The goal-category range for jobs were characterized as the set of jobs selected by the subject as acceptable. It was shown that search costs in Poland were greater under central planning than under the current market economy. An interval strategy can resolve inconsistencies and generate an intuition that there are always other options by promoting substitution.

The face of time: temporal cues in facial expressions of emotion

Article Abstract:

Test subjects were made to arrange a series of photographs each depicting a snapshot of an evolving facial expression of emotion in a temporal sequence to investigate the detection and utilization of temporal cues in facial expression. Results reveal that subjects can detect the subtle changes in facial expression although female subjects performed better than their male counterparts. The progression of the early stages of facial expression evolution are more easily identified.

Behavior-genetic strategies in the study of emotion

Article Abstract:

Recent research has proven that emotions are influenced by genetic factors. Behavior-genetic studies in animals and humans prove that psychophysiologic responses to fear, stress and other psychiatric disorders are heritable. Limitations in laboratory-based studies of the psychophysiologic, cognitive and expressive correlates of emotion, however, necessitate a broader application of behavior-genetic research which goes beyond the simple estimation of heritability.
