US' declaration of the 'war' on terror and the 'axis of evil' have benefited Iran which has used the confrontation for the hard-line exploitation of Iranian nationalism, and benefit too from the rising oil prices. This has given Iran the confidence to show little urgency to respond to the offer of a way by the west to end the crisis over its nuclear program despite growing pressure from the European Union.
