Article Abstract:

The activities of the Turkish and Kurdish communities in the Netherlands and Germany are evaluated for their effects on the homeland and on their host countries. The role of the diaspora in breaking down the distinction between domestic and foreign policies are emphasized.

The evolution of German citizenship law and its focus on blood belonging rather than birthplace are discussed. The failure to use citizenship to reform conceptions of German identity is analyzed.
