Iran, Sudan and Islam

Article Abstract:

Sudan's improving relations with Iran are a source of concern to both the country's neighbors and the West. The country's Islamization had progressed to the point that all government decisions were being made according to Islamic law by the late 1980s. Iran's involvement arose due to the country's regional ambitions, particularly its interest in impacting the Middle Eastern peace negotiations and in promoting Islamic fundamentalism abroad. The fact that the Sudan and Iran belong to different Islamic traditions may impede a closer connection between them.

The human shield strategyl

Article Abstract:

International handling of the massacres and refugee problem in and around Rwanda has only justified the methods of the criminals there. To ultimately resolve the problems, the refugees must be able to safely return to their homes in Rwanda, making the issue of Rwanda's judiciary process paramount. When the refugee camps first formed international attention was on providing aid, which allowed the massacre's masterminds to take over the camps and perpetuate their violations of human rights in safety.

Revisiting Rwanda: reconciliation postponed

Article Abstract:

Rwanda has an uncertain future resolving conflicts between tribal and political factions. The air crash death of Pres Juvenal Habyarimana has exacerbated friction, leading to violence and killings. Hutus have conflicts with minority Tutsis besides a division between southern and northern Hutu tribes. While the United Nations sent in peacekeeping forces in 1993 and 1994, they could not stop genocide, and had to leave. Rwanda needs renewed international help to solve its problems.
