Indian ambitions and the limits of American influence

Article Abstract:

The nuclear tests conducted by India and Pakistan indicates the need for the US to re-establish its influence in South Asia to avert the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the region. The first step is to renew bilateral ties and dialogue with India and Pakistan. Efforts must also be made to encourage India and Pakistan to join the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and obtain their assurances of nuclear no-first-use.
