Favorable conditions and electoral revolutions

Article Abstract:

A series of electoral revolutions has taken place from Slovakia to Kyrgyzstan since 1996 leading to the defeat of illiberal political forces and a victory for the liberal opposition. It is observed that the postcommunist region has emerged as the primary site for democratization through electoral revolutions because of interaction between favorable domestic conditions and international support.
