Article Abstract:

Democracy has come to some forty countries in postcommunist times, but these newly democratized states were not guided by secular ideals. But third wave democracies face the additional danger of the erosion of democratic values. While democratic transitions will continue, focus must shift to the consolidation of newly established nascent democracies.
