Issues include the media coverage of Palestinian-Israeli conflicts, the Saudis' identification with the Palestinians, and the effective use of Arab propaganda.

The domestic failures of Arab states, the collapse of Israel's attempt to destroy Hezbollah and the US debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan have emboldened Iran. The longer the Sunni leaders prove unable to resolve vital issues ranging from Palestinian problem to democratization, the more prestige and power the Shi'a crescent will gain.

The Riyadh bombings have sent shockwaves reverberating through Saudi Arabia. It is clear to many that Al Qaeda derives its roots and support from within Saudi Arabia but conflicts between Abdullah and Naif symbolize the internal struggle at the top of the system.
