Alternative views on international competitiveness have been discussed in order to separate the myths and realities of globalization. Economists who argue that industrialized nations would continue to have surpluses in their trade balances are mainly concerned with the declining role of the US in international competition. However, there are those who believe, such as Krugman, that international competition bears little resemblance to the nation-corporation analogy, but is about mutually beneficial exchange. Krugman believed that comparative and not absolute advantages propel trade among nations.

A study reveals that in neoclassical thought, presently hegemonic in political economics, the success of what is known as the new growth theory, or endogenous growth theory, is absolutely extraordinary for more than a decade. This representation, used to endogenize technical progress and to determine long-run growth rates, resisted changes in fashion to such an extent that it has at present achieved a dominant, if not exclusive, position in macrodynamic modernization.

Article Abstract:
Socialism's place as a basic tenet of the left should not be altered because of the failure of communism. This is mainly because, despite its failures, socialism provides the best method af addressing the abuses of capitalism, which is stronger than ever. Reactions of the left to the collapse of communism and possible future theoretical directions are discussed.
