In the wake of the terrorist attacks on the United States in September 2001, an overview is presented of the geopolitical aspects of undertaking a stance against terrorism in Afghanistan. It is observed that the region has a network of conflicting agendas of Islamic politics, none of which fully complements the interests of the United States.

"Old Europe" or "old America"?

This article addresses France and Germany's oppostiion against the United States' preemptive attack against Iraq. The autor, analyzing Donald Rumsfeld's scathing 'old Europe' remark, argues France and Germany represent a 'new Europe' paving the way for 'the coming world' rather than old world values.
