Affirmative action can't be mended

Article Abstract:

There has been an erosion of support for affirmative action, with a majority opposing such action, among blacks as well as other groups. Government allocation of resources can lead to some people being penalized when others are given preferential treatment. Parents are likely to protest if reverse discrimination appears to be taking place. There may be insufficient numbers of blacks with high enough SAT scores to fulfil quotas. Affirmative action does not fit in with notions of justice, and can lead to resentment.

Article Abstract:

Afirmative Action (AA) programmes were introduced in the US to counteract employment discrimination. Their relevance need to be considered more universally as xenophobia, sexual prejudice and violence increases in the 90s. Opposition of AA is particularistic and universalistic. AA tackles barriers to fair employment by utilising preferential treatment techniques. Critics claim that the programme is biased and bureacratic.
