Article Abstract:
Accounting standards are principles that serve as some of the major stumbling blocks to global economic integration. It results to trade access restrictions brought about by strict compliance being observed by foreign traders with regards to demanding financial statement requirements existing in several countries. Harmonization, recognition and inaction are actions being viewed as possible solutions to the complex and demanding nature of accounting standards.

It is important to consider whether the current Green Box criteria contained in the World Trade Organization Agreement on Agriculture for direct payment schemes are enough to ensure production and trade neutrality. It is concluded that the current criteria could be improved. Large ongoing payments attract and retain resources in agriculture.
