Article Abstract:

Lewisham, England is an example of a local government undergoing changes in UK's public sector. It is a borough of 240,000 people and employs 10,000 public workers to provide the basic municipal services to its residents. While the Council is concerned with improving the services it renders at lower costs, its other agenda is centered on creating community action and active citizen participation. It also seeks to find ways to improve democracy at every level and to improve the quality of life for its residents.

Oxfordshire County Council and the Local Government Review: a participant's perspective

Article Abstract:

The Local Government Review process for the Oxfordshire County in the United Kingdom resulted to the retention of the county's status as a 'city region.' However, the review process unearthed various facts regarding the local government. These include the complacency of the district councils on the issue and the failure of the central government to control the review process.
