Cooperation with NATO could help to promote Russian integration with Europe. Russian involvement was highly significant in peacekeeping operations in Bosnia. Furthermore, Russia's importance to the West is more apparent in relation to security and defense, while integration with European and global markets will probably take longer. Russia has the military potential to contribute to European security through NATO, which would significantly affect European relations.
