Deoxypodophyllotoxin reduces skin pigmentation of brown guinea pigs

Article Abstract:

Deoxypodophyllotoxin from Anthricus sylvestris (L.) Hoffm decreases UV-induced skin pigmentation of brown guinea pigs is demonstrated. Deoxypodophyllotoxin was topically applied twice daily for fourteen days to the dorsal skin of brown guinea pigs that were exposed to UV irradiation, which showed that deoxypodophyllotoxin could be used in the treatment of hyperpigmentation.

Effects of selected flavonoids and caffeic acid derivatives on hypoxanthine-xanthine oxidase-induced toxicity in cultivated human cells

Article Abstract:

Tissue damage because of oxygen radical generation may be involved in the pathogenesis of different diseases, carcinogenesis, aging, and cell death. Tests show that the beneficial effect of the flavonol glycosides rutin and hyperoside is weak, whereas flavone glycosides such as diosmin show a better effect of protection.

Relaxant effects of flavonoids in isolated guinea pig trachea and their structure-activity relationships

Article Abstract:

The structure-activity relationships between flavonoids and their tracheal relaxant action are little known. Some 26 natural and synthetic flavonoids are studied in this respect, and it was determined that glycosylation of the hydroxy group at position C-7 of flavones attenuate the relaxant effects.
