The beneficial claims made for topical vitamin C cosmetics have not been scientifically established. Industry standards, objective clinical data, and peer review of product literature are needed.

Research indicates that retinol penetrates human skin better than retinyl palmitate. Zinc and manganese ions in lotions promote bacterial growth. Magnesium depresses skin irritation. Sunless tanning lotion has disappearing color. Other research findings are included.

Compound allergy; hidden ingredients affecting our skin

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that, whereas a single ingredient in a cosmetic preparation may not cause allergy, the combination of two or more ingredients may lead to allergy. Testing for compound allergies is discussed.
